3DS Fans, It’s Either A Link to the Past or Majora’s Mask, Says Miyamoto
“We haven’t quite decided yet, whether we’re going to do A Link to the Past, because there’s also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask. This is something we’ve certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we’re going to go.”
Shigeru Miyamoto speaking with IGN’s Richard George at E3.
The success of Ocarina of Time 3D guaranteed Link would return to Nintendo’s handheld in one way or another, but the company isn’t sure which direction to take. The notion of an original Zelda title on par with console releases was toyed with at first, now it seems sticking to a familiar name in the series is the route Nintendo wants to take.
Remake or sequel, Sir Miyamoto has stars in his eyes when it comes to A Link to the Past. And why not? The SNES title is a landmark and a fan favorite. I’m sure it’s tempting to recycle assets from OoT3D in order to update Majora’s Mask. A bully fine prospect in and of itself. They have to know I’m happy either way (though, a completely new entry would’ve been cause for celebration).
The company isn’t offering up a decision yet, nor soon according to Miyamoto. With Wii U on the way, Shigeru says they have to weigh in on which Zelda experiences match not only the housebound 3DS but also their incoming hardware. We’re Link-less until they make up their mind but it’s dangerous to lose hope – take small comfort in the fact Nintendo’s at least thinking about it.
