More than any other trailer, this footage sold me on Ninja Theory’s direction. To be honest, the plot lines of previous games were muddled, unfocused messes that denied me from connecting with any of the characters. It seemed the stories were just stages to display Dante’s over-the-top hack n’ slashing and his ten foot middle finger of an attitude.
I know there’s much resistance in the gaming community to NPC’s you have to babysit but as a thematic tool, it grounds the new Dante. To see him give a shit about more than the next slice of pizza and calling girls “babes” (which has always dangerously chartered TMNT territory) speaks tones on how Ninja Theory hopes to humanize the half-demon brawler.
You may hate his new design (which, admittedly, is growing on me) but you can’t deny how awesome it would be to see Dante mature from a caricature into an actualized character.
