The Red Herb Roundup: Round 2 - The Sony Event

image

I’m only going to say this once.  Because you’re probably hearing it from every recess, avenue, and nook of the internet right about now.  So, here goes, just the once: Sony destroyed Microsoft today.

Sony sat back and did what resourceful companies do; they observed.  All of Microsoft’s weak spots, the negative reaction, even their own fans directly voicing their opinions through Twitter, blogs, and vlogs.  Sony listened, waited, and after assessing the situation…they struck.  Hard, fast, and not without some self-appreciative glee.

Sony and Microsoft have two next-gen consoles so similar in intent and execution, all the gaming public could do was look for the key differences.  Those differences, unfortunately for the Big M, came down to a war of ideologies.  And in this case Sony smartly – and deliberately –  petitioned for the people.

PlayStation 4 Officially Official

Sony’s live conference has come to a close and if you happened to miss it, or felt too guilty having your Xbox stare into your soul as you attempted to watch the stream, kindly allow me to spill the beans.  Focusing on immediacy of use in playing and downloading games while also trying to destroy technical limitations between developer and machine, Sony officially announced their next-gen beast tonight: the PlayStation 4.  And it’s coming this Holiday.

Over the next few months leading up until E3, where we’ll see way more of the system and the games racing to its launch window, you’re going to hear a shitload about the PS4.  You’ll hear so much about it, even the system’s logo is likely to give you a migraine.  Or send you into fits of animalistic rage which only warm blood can calm.  Happens every goddamn time they announce new hardware (just relax; gamers are given, like, three grace kills before the law takes notice).

So I’ll keep this quick and sweet, folks.  Hit the jump for a full lowdown.

Konami’s Not Doing E3 Next Week, They’re Doing It Tomorrow

If you’re hoping to catch Konami’s presentation at E3 next week, you’ll have already missed it.  The company is instead streaming a pre-E3 conference tomorrow night detailing their latest endeavors which are sure to include Metal Gear’s Bayonetta-esque turn, the new Lords of Shadow game (with, hopefully, clarification as to how many Castlevania’s we’re supposed to be getting), and maybe a status update on the missing-in-action Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

If Konami looks to seriously impress, they either have to unveil Metal Gear Solid 5 or, I don’t know, fix the last half-a-year of Silent Hill.  Whatever they’re cooking, I hope you East Coasters are night owls given that the conference won’t air for us until 1:30 in the A.M.
