Telltale Working on Save Imports for The Walking Dead: Season 2
Despite sharing the same foundation as Choose-Your-Own-Adventure storybooks and originally only made available as a digital download, Telltale Games’ grim yet heartfelt take on The Walking Dead comics knocked away multi-million dollar blockbusters the likes of Assassin’s Creed III and Black Ops II in order to root itself in the Game of the Year slot on several publication’s Best Of lists (including Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards). This is all with good reason, too. The game is goddamned fantastic; the best narrative experience 2012 had to offer, bar none.
Both a critical smash hit and a financial success (with over 8.5 individual episodes from the five-part series sold), it’s really quite the no-brainer a Season 2 is on Telltale’s plate. Details are scarce this early, but despite the soberly definitive ending found at the end of Season 1, Telltale still thinks there might be room for a save import feature, allowing your many decisions from the first five episodes to carry on into Season 2.
That’s what the studio’s CEO, Dan Connors, is banking on anyway. “Right now we are just starting to form the concept for season two. This all remains to be seen but we are definitely figuring out how to carry the saves over.”
Ah, goodness, it’s Mass Effect 2 all over again, which undoubtedly means fans out there have extra incentive to replay Season 1 and make sure they shape the story they absolutely want to be their starting point in Season 2. Me? I’ll likely try to go about being less of a bastard on my second playthrough and stop sacrificing my party to certain zombie doom at every opportunity (it’s going to take a lot of inner strength).
