The 3DS XL Lives!

Lookit this big bastard.  90% bigger than its former model, Nintendo plans on releasing this juggernaut on August 19th to coincide with the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the system.

Priced at $199.99, the handheld comes equipped with larger screens (4.88 on top, 4.18 on bottom), a battery that can last a little over six hours, and a 4GB SD card for your downloads.  The SD card will come particularly in handy once Nintendo initiates full force support of its eShop including the addition of new virtual console games (two titles releasing every week between July 5th and August 1st) and entire retail games made digital.

Considering the Wii U is supposedly making it to stores before the year gives out, I really didn’t think Nintendo would drop another 3DS model on the market.  Nor did I anticipate the continued absence of a second analog nub built into the design.  They’ve certainly got bigger pegged, but better seems to elude the company.  Still, with a steadily growing lineup begging for my wallet’s attention (Castlevania and a new Smash Bros. – I’ll buckle), it’s hard to deny the allure of a huger screen to game on.

I’m left, once again, with the same words Nintendo always elicits from me: Goddamn you for making me want this.
