You may not recognize this punk kid as Dante, but goddamn if he doesn’t act like him. I don’t pretend to empathize with the hate leveled at Ninja Theory’s reboot. I’ve made it no secret that this game has not ceased to impress me. I’ve harbored a strong love of the series since the beginning and have seen Dante through every single one of his exploits (I’m one of the many poor, lost souls that coughed up $49.99 for the likes of Devil May Cry 2).
I think there should be more concern for Ninja Theory fumbling with the overall narrative rather than sullying Dante. They’re definitely capable of being too heavy-handed with a story (how you doin’, Enslaved?), but their knack for characterization is hard to argue with. Judging from this trailer alone? If the story doesn’t have bite, at least it’s got attitude nailed down.
