Resident Evil 6 Collections Gather Years Worth of Evil

Listen, I know you were looking to take out a loan in order to get Leon Kennedy’s jacket, but Capcom has more, uh, cost effective alternatives.  Come on, dude, just go for this instead – how were you planning on feeding your children with a leather jacket?  (Stop answering, it was rhetorical and we’re moving on).

For $89.99 of your greens, you can either pick up the PS3’s Resident Evil 6 Anthology edition or the 360’s RE6 Archives.  What’s the difference?  If I had to guess, I’d say licensing.  More specifically, each collection comes with a certain assortment of past Resident Evil games:

Archives (Xbox 360)

  • Resident Evil: Degeneration (the CG film)
  • Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD
  • Resident Evil 4 HD
  • Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition
  • Resident Evil 6

Anthology (PS3)

  • Resident Evil: Director’s Cut
  • Resident Evil 2
  • Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • Resident Evil 4 HD
  • Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition
  • Resident Evil 6

All games without a “6” in their name are download only, lacking a physical disc.  Capcom’s senior apologist, Brett Elston, says they’re downloadable so that you may reap in the value, claiming the $90 set would have been closer to $130 otherwise.  I always figured Blu-Rays were bottomless pits of storage, but I understand that fact doesn’t do the Xbox any favors.

Anthology is just Code: Veronica shy of being the ultimate bundle, but as is, it still kicks dirt in Archives’ face (keep in mind I’m unabashedly biased – they could’ve bundled RE2 with an empty RE6 box and I’d still call it my favorite).  Even if each edition were exact, though, the glaring absence of REmake and Zero hold the collections back from true transcendence.

Actually, who cares?  If you’re reading this much, your house is, like mine, littered with these goddamn games.  Expect Resident Evil 6 and its respective editions out on October 2nd.  Watch the game in action here.
