Check Out E3’s New DmC Trailer, For It Is Good

Watch the trailer immediately.

You may not recognize this punk kid as Dante, but goddamn if he doesn’t act like him.  I don’t pretend to empathize with the hate leveled at Ninja Theory’s reboot.  I’ve made it no secret that this game has not ceased to impress me.  I’ve harbored a strong love of the series since the beginning and have seen Dante through every single one of his exploits (I’m one of the many poor, lost souls that coughed up $49.99 for the likes of Devil May Cry 2).

I think there should be more concern for Ninja Theory fumbling with the overall narrative rather than sullying Dante.  They’re definitely capable of being too heavy-handed with a story (how you doin’, Enslaved?), but their knack for characterization is hard to argue with.  Judging from this trailer alone?  If the story doesn’t have bite, at least it’s got attitude nailed down.

Devil May Cry Also Runs to 2013

Ninja Theory’s prequel-reboot-thing of Capcom’s flagship Devil May Cry series joins the slew of titles heartbreakingly shoved to the first quarter of 2013, now slated for January 15th.  Unfortunately, PC fans, that date only applies to the PS3 and 360 releases of the game, with your version still to come later in the year.

So,what the livid hell is going on here?  Why do games keep running away from 2012?  Publishers must know something we don’t.  Hell, maybe GTAV really is coming out in October and video games collectively understand to avoid Rockstar’s blast radius.  Whatever the case, the hack n’ slash genre continues to go on unaccounted for with entries like DmC and God of War: Ascension stuck in the future of 2013 instead of where they’re most needed – now, spinning in my consoles, satisfying my virtual bloodlust.

Back to the matter at hand, Capcom revealed the above screens introducing Kat, Dante’s companion and, knowing Ninja Theory, likely his moral compass.  Whether you love or hate the direction it’s going, expect to see more DmC between now and the game’s forever-the-hell-away date in January, including more baby-faced Dante at Capcom’s E3 booth next month.

DmC: Devil May Cry (PS3/Xbox 360 - 2012)

Ninja Theory says we’ll witness a younger, brasher Dante that holds remarkable power, but hasn’t smoothed the rough edges of his strength.  His youth also has some bearing on why he spends so much time diligently acting like an asshole.  Something tells me new Dante and I are gonna get along.

No release tagged to this game yet.  Maybe we’ll get confirmation in June when DmC is flaunted some more at E3.

New Devil May Cry Trailer Balances the Timeless Combo of Swordplay and Male Nudity

I’m calling it here and now: Naked Dante will be a day one DLC skin. Ninja Theory gives us a taste of their new Dante’s ‘tude in this trailer and some of what’s displayed recalls a certain white-haired demon slayer of the distant past – whether that proves to be unwelcome retread or respectful homage is up in the...
